We docked in the small town of Hassfurt and had some free time to explore before our bus left for Bamberg.  Why a bus?  The river  did a big horseshoe.  Rather than having the passengers sit on the boat while it navigated this stretch, Viking allowed us to disembark, explore Hassfurt and then go by bus to Bamberg and tour while the boat was making its’ journey around the bend.  We found that Viking went out of their way to maximize passengers enjoyment and minimize inconvenience and boredom.  I must say, the gangplank and steps did look a bit sketchy but we made it with no problem.

As in most towns, the church
spire was the predominant feature.

We did not go into the church as services were going on but did walk around back to find a beautifully maintained cemetery.  A video follows.
